GBBD - October 2011

Welcome one and all to another month where here at Irish Gardens there is still blooms.  I can't believe it.  I thought for sure that I wouldn't have any.

But alas I do.  So joining Carol over at May Dreams Gardens for another exciting Garden Bloggers Bloom Day post my first bloom is one of my Hydrangea bushes.
And of course the Marigolds are still in bloom.  I chose this picture because I loved the contrast.  First of the Marigold's them self with the red, yellow, and green but also because of how much they stand out against the signs of fall.
A few Roses are still trying to make known that it isn't yet winter
A pretty sight this morning was that my Basil is flowering.  I usually never get to see this as I harvest the basil often and it never gets to this stage.  But with all the rain lately it has been hard to get out to the garden to harvest.
Another herb that is showing of some color is this Pineapple Sage.  Can't wait till it opens up.
And this stunning beauty is all alone on the fence.  A deer problem this year as well as wacky weather has kept my Morning Glory blooms at bay.  With barely any leaves left this guy stands out like a beacon.

So what do you have blooming this windy fall day?  Head over to Carol's and see what others around the world are blogging about.

Deer a pest at the worst time

I love deer don't get me wrong.  I love watching them run through fields so graceful.  But right now.....
Well they are just driving me batty.  See my Morning Glory vines and Rose of Sharon bushes are ripening their seed pods right now and the lovely deer are eating them.

this Hibiscus bush only had one seed pod on it and thankfully I was able to save it before the munching started.  See in the picture the pot in the upper right hand corner?  Yea that was full of beautiful impatients but now look at it...a bunch of stubs.

Marigolds are doing just fine.  Deer in fact don't like them which is why I surounded my gardens this year....apparently when they are hungery they will still enter the garden anyways...they just won't eat the marigolds.

Garden Bloggers Bloom Day on a Thriving Thursday

Welcome one and all to a very special Thriving Thursday.  Ok so each one is special in it's own way but it sounded good.  This Thriving Thursday is also on the 15th which to many Garden Bloggers is known as Bloom Day.  Carol over at May Dreams Gardens hosts this beautiful event every month.  So after this be sure to stop over there and see what else is blooming around the Blogospere.   So now it's on to my blooming beauties this month.
Having fun with my flowers I took a bloom off of every currently blooming Rose of Sharon bush and placed them on the table for this picture.  Apparently I have 7 different varieties of Rose of Sharon.  How cool is that.
In honor of the Thriving Thursday portion of the post here is my Sweet Mint showing off it's pretty little flowers
 Some Saliva flowing away.
Another variety of Saliva blooming a pretty blue.
A Rose still blooming away small and colorful
Not the best picture in the world but a shot of my flowering Morning Glories.
Another Rose covered in dew showing off this morning.
My favorite Rose bush even decided to play nice this morning even with dew on the petals.
Another not so good picture but it shows one of my gardens full of color....mostly orange but still pretty non the less.

So that's my tour of the gardens and what is blooming this GBBD so what do you have blooming?  Thanks again to Carol for hosting this colorful and fun event each month.  Head over to May Dreams Gardens and see for yourself how pretty it is.

Welcome one and all to Irish Gardens on this rainy Bloom Day.  Well at least it's raining here.  It has been raining for the last 3 days.  I know we needed the rain but we need sun too.  It seems we are getting a lot of extremes this year....heat or rain, sun or shade.  So on to the bloom day pictures which surprisingly there is a lot of for a rainy day.
Rose of Sharon still showing off it's double purple blooms
Pumpkins are still flowering like crazy...still only one pumpkin so far though
Beef-master Tomato plants are still flowering up a storm.
Cucumbers too....lots of yellow orange over by the greenhouse
Even the Watermelons are still flowering still no melons yet though
Only 1 eggplant harvested as of yet but lots of pretty purple flowers still popping up all over.
Echinacea is still showing off her pretty purple flowers
The pretty and delicate marshmallow flowers are still busy opening up.
Finally some green beans are finally flowering
A wild flower that was finally identified as Asiatic Day flower a local wild herb.  How cool.  Another herb to add to my collection.
Blush Satin Rose of Sharon showing off it's beauty as well.
Finally morning glories are beginning to open
My new favorite morning glory is this beautiful variegated leaf
Another beauty is showing off this Bloom Day.
Poor hydrangea bush is falling over because it is heavy with rain.
Hibiscus is looking down this morning also heavy with rain.

Mother Nature read my blog

So yesterday I posted about how we needed rain.  Well today it's raining.  It is a nice light rain that brings a cool breeze into the house. The nice rain brought flowers along with it
The first of my seed started Morning Glories.  Flying Saucer Morning Glory and isn't it beautiful?
Mom and I picked up this plant at a local nursery because of the variegated foliage.  But the blooms aren't too bad either.
Remember a few days ago when I posted about learning something new?  Well this is what the flower looks like.  The orange is so brilliant my daughter said it looks like plastic.
This pretty little flower is from my new Rose of Sharon bush - Blue Chiffon.  Looks a lot like my double purple bush.
