GBBD - June

Ah yes it's that time again when Carol over at May Dreams Gardens host this lovely event called Garden Bloggers Bloom Day.  A day where we all post about what is blooming in our gardens.  A day we get to see what is blooming in other gardens all around the world at all times of the year.  I would like to take you on a blooming tour of Irish Gardens now.....see what we have blooming today:

 The lilies have started to make their beauty and presence known in the front yard.  Pretty in pint these guys are big and bold.

 In the butterfly garden the first of 8 different Butterfly Bushes has begun to bloom as well.

 And add to that the day lilies have begun to open up.

 Still in the front yard but in the Rose garden we find but of course the Roses.

The morning sun shining on a newly opened rose makes for a lovely start to the day

 Right next to the Rose bush the 4 O'Clocks are still doing their blooming thing and showing off their yellow flowers.

On to the side of the house or also known as the driveway garden the Hosta's have decided to come out and play the blooming game too.

 A few mixed zinnia that still need to be planted have decided that even though they are becoming root bound and are craving some water they will bloom for me too.

 And into the heart of Irish Gardens we go.  Starting in this years bean and pea garden.

This Marigold decided to grow from a seed that some how was missed in the fall clean up....so the seed lasted the winter outside.....weird.

 Continuing our tour we head into the Greenhouse and see whats going on.
Anyone want to take a guess as to what this flower is of?  Many don't see it....it's lettuce.  Yup in case you didn't know if you leave the tops of lettuce alone long enough they will flower and produce seeds....

 Behind the lettuce is Echinacea showing off their pretty flowers now too.

 Here is another one that not many folks know about.. Marshmallow.  Pretty delicate flowers with purple pollen.

Leave the onions in the ground too long and this is what you get....I am wondering what happens now.

And finally we stay in the greenhouse for our last flower for bloom day....Dill

Crazy weather means.....

.......My herbs keep growing.  Not complaining of course just worried.  I mean it's the end of November and it's 60 outside and I can spot new growth on not only my herbs but my rose bushes and some of my hydrangea's.  What is wrong with this picture.  Anyways I wanted to see how things in the Greenhouse were progressing so I took a few pictures.....so on to a tour of my still green greenhouse.

 It may not look like a lot is growing in there but there is.  Lets take if from the front left first hidden from view is some Sage and Echinacea.  Then in the back on the left that big glob of green yea that would be carrots.

The small middle row will be next.  There are two rows of herbs in there so we will start at the front left and move back.

First up would be this lovely Rosemary.  Can you see it in the big picture...don't worry it's there.

Next just behind the Rosemary would be Mint.  Not just any mint.....but Variegated mint.

See look at the colors....it smells heavenly too.

 And behind that is Apple Mint.  Yea they are a little close to each other but it forces me to prune often.

 Back at the front of the middle part again is Spearmint...not looking so good cause it is pot bound and not at all happy with me.

 That big bunch of green in the middle yea that would be my herb....lemon balm.  Growing and very very happy.

 Right behind the lemon balm is Banana Mint.  Yes there is such a thing.

 And lastly in this row comes common oregano.

 So starting at the front again but on the right side hidden out of view is Vicks plant....with some onions in the middle.  Vicks apparently doesn't like the cold...

 Just behind that and up against the side is my Greek Oregano.....man this stuff is great.

 Finally coming in view of the over all picture that green mess in the front right would be this guy Sweet Marjoram.  Oh and some more onions.

 About the middle of the right side is this to the right is Marshmallow and the left is a small pot of Echinacea.

 Along the back wall we find my favorite mint of all the ones I have.....Chocolate mint.

And to the right of Chocomint is Winter Savory.

So thats the tour of my greenhouse.  Lots still growing in there and I love it.  Hopefully Mother Nature will pick up her calendar and realize that it's late fall and drop the temp some.  Cause when she does winter can come and go and it's on to spring...time to plant again.

Garden Bloggers Bloom Day - August 2011

Welcome one and all to Irish Gardens on this rainy Bloom Day.  Well at least it's raining here.  It has been raining for the last 3 days.  I know we needed the rain but we need sun too.  It seems we are getting a lot of extremes this year....heat or rain, sun or shade.  So on to the bloom day pictures which surprisingly there is a lot of for a rainy day.

 Rose of Sharon still showing off it's double purple blooms

 Pumpkins are still flowering like crazy...still only one pumpkin so far though

 Beef-master Tomato plants are still flowering up a storm.

 Cucumbers too....lots of yellow orange over by the greenhouse

Even the Watermelons are still flowering still no melons yet though

 Only 1 eggplant harvested as of yet but lots of pretty purple flowers still popping up all over.

 Echinacea is still showing off her pretty purple flowers

 The pretty and delicate marshmallow flowers are still busy opening up.

 Finally some green beans are finally flowering

 A wild flower that was finally identified as Asiatic Day flower a local wild herb.  How cool.  Another herb to add to my collection.

 Finally morning glories are beginning to open

 My new favorite morning glory is this beautiful variegated leaf

 Another beauty is showing off this Bloom Day.

 Poor hydrangea bush is falling over because it is heavy with rain.

 Hibiscus is looking down this morning also heavy with rain.

 Another Rose of Sharon that is showing off it's beauty.

And finally to end my blooming show is this pretty lady the Mandevilla vine...
